About

Roberto Maccariello (b. 1988, Italy) is an international photographer who splits his time between Austria, Colombia, and Italy. After completing his photography studies in Rome and Vienna, he began traveling to Colombia to document the country's indigenous tribes.
His work focuses on investigating and documenting the life, knowledge, traditions, and rituals of Colombia’s Indigenous communities. He aims to provide insight into what it means to be Indigenous today and to highlight their position in contemporary society. His analysis includes the strategies these communities are adopting to address external challenges such as climate change, cultural erosion, and territorial loss.
Through his photography Maccariello explores how the unique knowledge preserved by these communities could serve as a vital resource for developing policies that enhance social cohesion, protection, and the restoration of natural resources.
